The Black Works Studio Killer Bee Green Hornet is an off-shoot of the brand’s popular Killer Bee line. Killer Bee was one of the three original blends when Black Label Trading Company’s James Brown launched his new brand called Black Works Studio. The original Killer Bee cigar is a maduro cigar known for its closed foot and signature natural tobacco linear-rings around the cap. Green Hornet changes things up a bit. It introduces a modified blend which is stronger than the original Killer Bee. It also uses candela leaf for the linear rings and around the closed footer. Green Hornet started as an event-only cigar, but Brown decided to add the cigar as a part of the Black Works Studio portfolio. Recently, I’ve had an opportunity to smoke the Killer Bee Green Hornet in the Robusto format. The Green Hornet is a cigar that showcases the brand’s artesian qualities, but uses the candela to create a most unique cigar experience.

When Black Works Studio was launched, Brown said that he viewed cigar making as an art-form and it provided another avenue from what he is doing as a cigar maker and brand owner. While Black Label Trading Company has a gothic / skull and bones theme, Black Works Studio brings a more contemporary and modern look. The two brands both employ a small batch philosophy in terms of production for all of its releases. Both Black Label Trading Company and Black Works Studio come out of the Fabrica Oveja Negra factory, the boutique factory owned by the principals involved with both brands.
